Latta pushes to overrule FCC on broadband control

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Bob Latta, R-Bowling Green, introduced a resolution Thursday to overrule the Federal Communication Commission’s recent ruling to reclassify broadband as a public utility.

The FCC recently announced it would reclassify broadband under Title II of the Communications Act of 1934.

“It’s incredulous we’re having the debate again about the FCC’s so-called ‘net neutrality’ order when its repeal in 2017 led to lower prices, faster Internet speeds and increased investment in broadband networks,” Latta said in a press release. “Once again, the Biden administration is prioritizing heavy-handed government control, made evident in the FCC’s latest push to control the Internet.”

Latta said the FCC ruling could be “imposing stifling regulations that will hinder our ability to expand broadband Internet access and close the digital divide.”

Latta, a senior member of the energy and commerce committee, announced he had the support of Cathy McMorris Rodgers, the chair of that committee.
