Veteran Lima firefighter retires

LIMA — A Lima firefighter of nearly 35 years is retiring, according to a social media post from the Lima Fire Department.

An announcement was posted Thursday on the department’s Facebook page that Battalion Chief Greg Kirkendall has retired. According to the post, Kirkendall served the city as a firefighter for nearly 35 years, serving as a shift commander for 16 years.

“He has commanded countless emergency operations throughout Lima and everyone under his command has safely returned home, even under the most chaotic conditions,” the post read.

Going forward, Kirkendall will be working with his wife operating the Deutsch Essen food truck serving traditional German cuisine, the post said.
