ONU to launch online law program

ADA — Ohio Northern University will soon offer a fully online, part-time juris doctorate program.

The American Bar Association recently accredited the four-year online program, which will be limited in its first year to 25 students but may enroll as many as 50 students in future years, according to a press release from ONU.

Students who enroll in the online law program will be taught by the same faculty and take the same required courses as resident students, including courses in civil procedure, criminal law and contracts, according to the release.

“This is groundbreaking,” Dean Charles H. Rose III said in the release. “ONU Law is one of only six law schools in the country to offer students a program of this kind. We are now well positioned to transform the delivery of legal education.”

Online students will also have access to academic and career counseling, bar preparation and externships, and will have the opportunity to join the student law review, moot court and trial team.

Professor and Program Director Allison Mittendorf said in the release that the online program will allow ONU to offer personalized and practical legal education to a new cohort of students across the country.

“We’re confident our innovative new online program will allow us to maintain that personalized, small school feel that enables our students to thrive,” Mittendorf said.
