‘Tecumseh’s Eclipse’ is focus of event in Wapakoneta

WAPAKONETA — The Auglaize County Historical Society will present “Not Since Tecumseh: Darkness at Midday over the Ohio Country — Total Eclipse of the Sun” with astronomer Tom O’Grady at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 4, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 101 Perry St., Wapakoneta.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn the connection between Tecumseh, the Native American tribal chief, and the last total eclipse of the sun to cover Ohio which occurred on June 16, 1806. That event has gone down in history as Tecumseh’s Eclipse, according to historical society director Rachel Barber.

“With the next solar eclipse happening in little more than a month, Mr. O’Grady’s remarks will be especially intriguing,” Barber said.

The event is free and open to the public. Visitors are asked to use the Mechanic Street entrance to the church.
