Lima Public Library drops late fees

LIMA — The Lima Public Library has announced they will no longer charge late fees beginning Thursday, June 1.

“We understand that fines can become a barrier to patrons,” said Lima Public Library Director Gary Fraser in a recent press release. “We believe that by doing this one-time fine forgiveness and eliminating late fees we can give patrons a fresh start and offer them better accessibility to our materials. Bringing people back to the library so they can take advantage of all our services, programs, and materials is our main goal.”

The release also said the fees were only .17% of the library’s overall operating budget in 2022. After 30 days of an item not being returned, the person will be charged for the item. The release said the fee will be ‘dropped’ once the item is returned to the library.
