Health department makes improvements

LIMA — Allen County Health department is looking to upgrade. The department requested an electronic medical records upgrade in 2020 once the ARPA funds were made available. Now the department is making plans to move forward. The Allen County Commissioners entered an MOU with the Allen County Combined Health District Thursday morning.

“This is something we have been working with them on since the inception of the rescue monies,” said Allen County Commissioner Brian Winegardner. “This is to finalize that software upgrade for them.”

The set cost of the project is $13,260. The project will consist of consolidating the organization’s data system from 5 to 6 into one system. According to Allen County Health Commissioner Brandon Fischer, the hope of the upgrade is to make it easier for public usage and for the department.

“How we handle inventory, a vaccine from a system that was developed in the late 1990s and early 2000s into that is more modern that is a little more consumer-friendly and user-friendly on our end,” said Fischer.

Fischer also said the organization hopes to utilize the new system to make it easier for the public to schedule necessary appointments online and complete forms.

“We hope that we are able to make this work and offer better services to the people that we serve,” said Fischer.
