Maplewood gets new playground equipment

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP —A large, new piece of playground has been installed at Maplewood Intermediate School.

Through a successful fundraising campaign during the 2021-22 school year, staff, students, families, local businesses and the community joined together to raise almost $22,000. These funds were matched by the Shawnee Local Schools through permanent improvement funds.

“We are excited to be holding a ribbon-cutting on November 2 with our current 4th graders. We are inviting our 5th graders back from middle school so they can play on the playground they worked so hard to fundraise for!” Susie Cornell, Maplewood Physical Education teacher explained. “We are very grateful for everyone who made this possible for our students.”

A large, outdated piece of playground equipment will be removed. The playground will also get fresh bark chips and the swings will be replaced.
