Ohio cemeteries awarded funding for repairs

OTTAWA — The Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing is awarding 44 cemeteries in the state of Ohio with grant funds. Each cemetery will receive funding to address needed repairs throughout its facility. The state will distribute $104,000 in grants.

The Pomeroy Cemetery (Ottawa Cemetery) in Putnam County will receive $2,338 to repair four brick columns at the main and side gates.

Division Superintendent Daphne Hawk said this is the fourth year of awarding grants for registered non-profit cemeteries. The funds help to improve recordkeeping, restoration of monuments, fence repair and improved signage.

Cemeteries that applied for funding but did not receive the award are encouraged to reapply next year.
