Jordan addresses upcoming election

LIMA — In light of the upcoming election, Representative Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) plans to focus on four main issues: the border, inflation, safe streets and gas prices. The representative joined the Lima Noon Sertoma Club Thursday afternoon.

On Nov. 8, Jordan will run against Tamie Wilson (D) to represent District 4 in Ohio. While gathering with Sertoma, Jordan addressed a recent debate in Ohio.

US Senate candidates JD Vance (R) and Tim Ryan (D) debated on Monday evening in preparation for the upcoming election. Jordan weighed in on the debate and the races across the United States.

“I did not get to watch it but I heard that JD Vance did a very nice job,” said Jordan. “I think the US Senate is the most important race in the state. We got to keep that Republican seat in the US senate in Republican hands. We’re going to have a chance to check the craziness from the left in Washington I think JD Vance is going to win.”

Jordan informed club members that there are multiple open seats in the Senate across the United States during the upcoming election.

“All the Republicans up for re-election or open seats are all in swing states,” said Jordan. “Georgia, Pennsylvania and Ohio, which is now more of a Trump Republican state, which is great. You also got Wisconsin, Nevada, Arizona and North Carolina. All those swing states are up and it looks pretty good. I think there is a pretty good chance that Republicans take back the House and Senate.”

In August, the Inflation Reduction Act became a law to address health care, prescription drug costs and the cost of energy. In addition, the new act will increase the budget of the IRS to cover new enforcement agents, operation support, taxpayer services and system modernization. The goal of the legislation is to hire 87,000 new IRS agents by 2031.

“The IRS is going to harass taxpayers, I’m convinced,” added Jordan. “Context is always important. This is the same IRS that 12 years ago was targeting people for their political beliefs. Now we’re going to give them 87,000 new agents to harass people. They are going to target Republicans or more than likely target good people.”
