Lima Fire Department responds to fire

LIMA — The Lima Fire Department responded to a fire located at 818-820 N. Union St. around 8:17 p.m. Monday evening. The home is owned by Linda Newland, according to the Allen County Auditor’s website.

The property was transformed from a single-family home to a duplex at a value of $60,200. Battalion Chief Greg Kirkendall reports estimated losses to the property of $50,000. In addition, there is an estimated loss of content at $7,500. The uninjured occupants reportedly left the home to run errands and returned to LFD on the scene. Four dogs and six cats were found in the home at the time of the fire. None of the animals survived. Investigator Joe Lombardo believes the fire was accidental at this time.
