LIMA — On the final day of voter registration for the upcoming May 4 special election and the day before absentee balloting begins, members of the Allen County Board of Elections met Monday morning to go over a last-minute checklist.
Kathy Meyer, elections director, showed board members Keith Cheney, Gary Frueh and Mona Willamowski — Jeff Rex was absent — how to run and test voting machines that will be in use during the May 4 election this year. Highlighting the ballot are a runoff race for the Lima mayoral seat that will see the two candidates with the highest vote totals square off against each other in November.
The election board, meeting for the final time before May 4, observed a test of a voting machine that will be used during the election and compared written ballots against the results tabulated by the device. The results matched the hand-written samples that had been fed in, meaning the machine had been properly calibrated. Meyer showed board members how to replace the key component of the machine if problems should arise on election day.
Meyer said absentee in-person voting for the May 4 election begins Tuesday at the board of office at 205 N. Main St., Lima.
Absentee-by-mail ballots will be mailed starting Tuesday for voters who have completed a request form at j.mp/3wsSkeb. Request forms must be mailed or dropped off at the board office.
