LIMA — A Lima man alleged to have possessed a controlled substance that contained fentanyl in a bulk amount appeared in Allen County Common Pleas Court on Thursday to waive his constitutional right to a speedy trial.
Jamere Austin, 27, was indicted by a grand jury in December for possession of a fentanyl-related compound, a felony of the first degree that also includes specifications for the use of a gun during the commission of the crime and the forfeiture of guns and money in a drug case.
A tentative new trial date of April 13 was set during Thursday’s hearing.
Austin is alleged to have possessed a controlled substance that contained fentanyl in an amount in excess of 20 grams but less than 50 grams.
According to court records, the West Central Ohio Crime Task Force and the Allen County SWAT team executed a search warrant on Nov. 5, 2020, at a residence in the 500 block of East Third Street in Lima. Austin was located in the first floor bedroom, “in direct proximity” to 29 grams of fentanyl and a loaded firearm.
He is being held in the Allen County jail under $250,000 bond.
