Competency exam ordered for Lima murder suspect

LIMA — The man charged with murder in the 2017 shooting death of Lima resident Shannon Scott will undergo a psychiatric evaluation later this month upon the request of his attorney.

The examination, scheduled to take place July 22 at the Forensic Psychiatry Center for Western Ohio in Dayton, is intended to establish the mental competency of Marquez Pritchett and to determine if he is able to assist in his own defense. A written summary of the findings of that evaluation are to be submitted to Allen County Common Pleas Court within 30 days.

Pritchett, 33, whose address is listed in court records as Moreno Valley, California, is being held on $1 million bond after being formally charged last month with murder, an unclassified felony that includes a firearm specification, and a third-degree felony count of having a weapon while under disability.

Pritchett was returned to Allen County from Arizona in April to face charges in Scott’s murder. Police said he had been a suspect in Scott’s death since the early stages of the investigation.

Pritchett was arrested on a Lima warrant last September in Arizona. The former Lima resident, who reportedly fled to California following Scott’s death, had contested his extradition back to Allen County since that time. With those appeals finally exhausted, Pritchett was flown back to Ohio and was taken to the Allen County jail to await trial.

Family members of Shannon Scott discovered the body of the 47-year-old man on June 11, 2017, after he had not been heard of for several days. Scott was found in his living room at 621 Michael Ave., Lima. He had been shot with a handgun, police said.
