LIMA — Bond was set at $1 million Monday for a woman accused of murder in the June 3 shooting death of Tarissa Sanders on Atlantic Avenue in Lima.
Michelle Alves appeared via video from the Allen County jail for her arraignment hearing Monday in Lima Municipal Court. Judge David Rodabaugh set a preliminary hearing for 9 a.m. July 13 and said an attorney would be appointed to represent Alves. Court records show attorney Andrea Henning will serve as the court-appointed defense counsel.
Alves, 31, is one of two individuals described by police as “persons of interest” in the double homicide that left Charles and Tarissa Sanders dead last month. The judge on Monday said only that Alves is charged in the murder of Tarissa Sanders. The potential penalty for that charge is a prison sentence of 15 years to life.
Alves was booked into the Allen County jail late Thursday after having been extradited from Las Vegas.
A second person of interest in the case, Clinton Owens Jr., 32, has been charged with having weapons under disability. He was returned to Lima on Wednesday and arraigned Thursday in Lima Municipal Court. He will appear Thursday for a preliminary hearing. Owens is being held without bond because of an earlier parole violation.
Alves and Owens were arrested June 15 by officers from the Las Vegas Metro Police Department after warrants for their arrest were issued by the Lima Police Department. The duo was quickly identified by local police as suspects following the June 3 shooting deaths of the Sanders couple.
Officers from the LPD were dispatched that morning to 413 S. Atlantic Ave., Lima, after a report of shots fired. According to LPD Detective Steve Stechschulte, two individuals were found inside the residence when police arrived. Tarissa Sanders was already deceased, and Charles Sanders died at a local hospital a short time later. According to Stechschulte, both victims died of gunshot wounds.

A Facebook post dated June 12 on a page linked to Alves seems to indicate the victims in the June 3 double shooting were inside Alves’ house and were “tryna steal my gun.” The post also says that if anyone attempts to take Alves’ children “my face will b the last one u c just like terissa n dude period.”
