LIMA — The two persons of interest in the June double homicide on Lima’s Atlantic Avenue have been returned to Lima from Las Vegas to face charges.
Michelle Alves, charged with murder in the June 3 shooting deaths of Charles and Tarissa Sanders, was booked into the Allen County jail late Thursday after having been extradited from Las Vegas.
Clinton Owens Jr., 32, preliminarily charged with having weapons under disability, was returned to Lima late Wednesday and was arraigned Thursday in Lima Municipal Court. He will appear in that same court at 10:15 a.m. Thursday for a preliminary hearing. He is being held without bond because of an earlier parole violation.
Alves and Owens were arrested June 15 by the officers from the Las Vegas Metro Police Department after warrants for their arrest were issued by the Lima Police Department. The duo was quickly identified by local police as suspects following the June 3 shooting deaths of the Sanders couple.
Officers from the LPD responded to a call at 8:15 a.m. that day to 413 S. Atlantic Ave. after a report of shots fired. According to LPD Detective Steve Stechschulte, two individuals were found inside the residence when police arrived. Tarissa Sanders was already deceased and Charles Sanders died at a local hospital. According to Stechschulte, both victims died of gunshot wounds.
Members of the Lima Police Department traveled to Las Vegas earlier this week to return Owens to Allen County. Detective Sean Neidemire on Friday confirmed that Alves was flown into Detroit on Thursday and was brought to the local jail at around 8 p.m.
Neidemire said the transport company that handles prisoner moves “will only transport one prisoner at a time” for safety reasons.
Alves is expected to appear Monday in Lima Municipal Court for her arraignment hearing.
