LIMA — A Lima man who has produced music videos and recordings and advertising media for a wide array of clients throughout the Allen County area could be leaving jail soon after a judge significantly lowered his bond in a case where the facts are greatly contested.
Anthony Ridley, 34, was indicted by a grand jury in March on charges of aggravated burglary and felonious assault, felonies of the first and second degrees, respectfully. Each count includes a specification alleging the use of a firearm during the commission of the crimes.
According to court documents, police were dispatched on the morning of Jan. 17 to 625 N. Elizabeth St., Lima, in reference to a dispute involving a man with a gun. As one LPD officer was approaching the scene, he reportedly saw a female, naked and wrapped in a blanket, running along North Elizabeth Street.
She told officers she was asleep inside the home at 625 N. Elizabeth St. when she awoke to an altercation. She said a man later identified as Ridley came to the door and exchanged words with her boyfriend before pulling out a handgun. She said Ridley put the gun in her boyfriend’s mouth and threatened to shoot him. The man was then pistol-whipped by Ridley, the woman said.
Ridley appeared Wednesday in Allen County Common Pleas Court with a new attorney, Breezy Warner, in what was scheduled as a pretrial hearing.
Warner said there were huge discrepancies surrounding whether or not a gun was actually used during the incident. Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kyle Thines said Ridley told police he was not even in Lima at the time of the assault, but Thines said Ridley’s cell phone was found at the crime scene.
Because Warner is new to the case the matter was continued, with a trial date set for Sept. 14. Warner did successfully argue in favor of a dramatic reduction in her client’s bond.
Judge Terri Kohlrieser agreed that the $500,000 bond on while Ridley was being held was “a little excessive” and agreed to lower the bail amount to $75,000. If Ridley posts bond, he will be equipped with a GPS ankle monitor and will have a curfew requiring him to be inside his home from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. daily. He is to have no contact with the victim in the case.
Ridley told the court he is working toward a bachelor’s degree in the music industry and could make up to $2,000 per month doing work for clients if released from jail.
