Opioid prescribing down 378 million doses in Ohio

COLUMBUS — A new report shows the number of prescription opioid doses in Ohio has decreased by 48% since its peak in 2012, according to the Ohio Board of Pharmacy’s automated Rx reporting system.

The report found that 415 million prescription opioid doses were dispensed in 2019, down from the peak 793 million opioids dispensed in 2012. Five million fewer Ohioans were prescribed opioids in this period.
