LIMA — A Spencerville man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of a woman Sunday evening in the western Allen County village.
Donald James Leach, 52, is charged in the death of Kristie Lynn Hayhurst, 40, who died as the result of a single gunshot wound to the head, according to a press release issued by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office.
Hayhurst resided at 457 Charles St. in Spencerville, where the shooting occurred. Leach also resided at the Charles Street address, according to the statement. He is currently being held at the Allen County jail pending his initial court appearance. The investigation is ongoing at this time, and the current criminal charge is subject to change as the investigation progresses, officials said.
Officers from the sheriff’s office, along with Spencerville police and Spencerville EMT service, were dispatched to the Charles Street location at approximately 9:40 p.m. Sunday in reference to a female victim, later identified as Hayhurst, with a gunshot wound to her head.
Hayhurst was transported to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima by Spencerville EMS, where she was pronounced dead. Her body was transported to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.
