VAN WERT — A Delphos man has been sentenced to a prison term of between four and six years on charges of aggravated arson and felonious assault, both felonies of the second degree.
David Youngpeter, 38, was sentenced in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court to identical prison terms on each count, and Judge Martin Burchfield ordered the sentences to be served concurrently. Youngpeter will also be required to register annually for life as an arson offender.
Youngpeter was indicted by a grand jury in October of last year on a charge of attempted murder, along with additional counts of felonious assault and aggravated arson. The attempted murder charge was dropped in a deal with prosecutors.
The charges stemmed from a Sept. 3 incident in which an unidentified female who sought treatment at Delphos Ambulatory Care for severe burns to both her legs. She reported to the medical staff that Youngpeter intentionally inflicted the burns to her body by dousing a room with gasoline and igniting it.
The victim was taken to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center and was later transferred to the burn unit at St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo for treatment of her injuries.
