Lima teenager with part in armed robbery scheme enters guilty plea

LIMA — A Lima teenager on Friday admitted her role in the 2019 armed robbery of her former boyfriend and pleaded guilty to a reduced charge in the case.

Jordyn Mitchell, 19, was indicted in November on a first-degree felony count of aggravated robbery. The charge carried a specification for the use of a firearm during the commission of that offense, even though Mitchell herself never touched a firearm.

Under the terms of an agreement with prosecutors, Mitchell on Friday entered a guilty plea to an amended count of robbery, a second-degree felony. The state agreed to dismiss the firearm specification.

Mitchell faces up to eight years in prison when she is sentenced April 3.

According to court documents, Mitchell was complicit in a scheme between herself and three other individuals to rob Tyshawn Thompson outside the Maplewood/Northwood Apartments on Brower Road in Lima earlier this year. Thompson told police on Sept. 17 that he had been kicked out of his apartment by Mitchell and their roommate, Brenna Cochran, and was to meet with Mitchell at approximately 1:50 a.m. outside the apartment complex to exchange some personal property.

During that meeting with Mitchell and Cochran, Thompson said two black males approached the group. One of the men, later identified as Cardale Funches, reportedly pulled a handgun from his sweatshirt and pointed it at Thompson before robbing him of his cell phone and identification. The other black male was later identified as Isahia Dyous, court documents show.

Police later gained permission to search the apartment shared by Mitchell and Cochran and discovered Thompson’s belongings, along with the handgun used in the robbery.

Mitchell reportedly admitted to police that she set up the robbery and knew Funches possessed the handgun.
