Honor Flights set for June and October

FINDLAY — Dates have been selected for the two 2018 flights of Flag City Honor Flight (FCHF), the Findlay based hub of the National Honor Flight Network.

On June 5 and again on October 2, FCHF will take approximately 80 veterans plus their guardians on a journey to Washington D.C. to visit the war memorials.

The trips are made possible by the generous donations of individuals, organizations, local businesses, and corporations. Veterans pay absolutely nothing. Guardians are asked to make a tax deductible donation to help with expenses.

Veterans depart The Cube parking lot via bus at 4:30 a.m. with Findlay Police, Hancock County Sheriff and Legion Riders in escort. Following breakfast at Grand Aire Hangar, the group departs Toledo Express Airport via charter jet at 8:00 a.m., arriving at Baltimore-Washington International airport at 9:30 a.m.

The entourage travels by bus to the World War II, Korean, and Vietnam memorials and watches the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. The return flight arrives in Toledo at Grand Aire Hangar at approximately 9:45 p.m. A welcome home ceremony with family members and mail-call follows. Public is welcome. The caravan should arrive back in Findlay around midnight.
