LIMA — A Lima man is scheduled to appear in Allen County Common Pleas Court Monday to answer to charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol in connection with an August traffic accident that claimed the life of a young woman.
Patrick Hull, 24, Lima, is slated to appeared before Judge Jeffrey Reed Monday morning for an arraignment hearing and to enter pleas to a first-degree felony charge of vehicular homicide as well as multiple counts of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, first-degree misdemeanors.
The charges stem from an Aug. 5 traffic accident that claimed the life of Holly C. Mooney, 23, of Lima, who was a passenger in Hull’s vehicle.
According to a report from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, on the night in question Hull was behind the wheel of a 2002 Dodge Neon on Bluelick Road when he reportedly attempted to pass another vehicle on the right and lost control of his vehicle, causing it to cross the center line and strike a utility pole before overturning and coming to rest in a field.
Hull was treated for minor injuries at the scene. Mooney was taken to Lima Memorial Health System and was then flown to Promedica Hospital in Toledo. She died three days later of injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities at the time of the accident said alcohol was suspected to be a factor in the crash. Mooney and Hull were not wearing seat belts.
According to court documents, Hull was driving with a suspended driver’s license at the time of the crash. He has a previous arrest for driving under the influence in Pennsylvania, police said.
Court records show Hull was apprehended by law enforcement officials in Michigan after initially giving police a Lima address, leading prosecutors to tell the court Hull was considered a flight risk. His bond was set at $100,000.
