Sentencing date pushed back for Elida man convicted of rape

LIMA — Sentencing for an Elida man convicted by an Allen County jury in October of raping a 15-year-old girl at a Poling Road residence has been postponed a second time.

William Baker Jr., 40, was convicted in October of two counts each of rape, sexual battery, unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, and gross sexual imposition for the April 7 incident.

Baker originally was to be sentenced Monday. That court date was pushed back a week to Dec. 4 and then was further delayed this week when Baker fired his attorney, Carroll Creighton, and requested the court appoint a public defender to represent him at sentencing. Greg Donohue is Baker’s new court-appointed attorney.

A new sentencing hearing was set for 8 a.m. Dec. 18.
