Shooting of Lima teen may be gang-related

LIMA — A teenage male was transported to Lima Memorial Health System with gunshot wounds after shots were exchanged in Lima on Wednesday. The incident is considered possibly gang related, police said.

Officers with the Lima Police Department were dispatched around 9:10 p.m. to the area of Holmes and Reese avenues in reference to several shots being fired. Shortly after arriving in the area, a 911 call alerted them to a shooting victim at the apartments at 758 and 760 E. Fourth St.

According to a report by police, the 17-year-old male was shot in the leg and transported to the hospital for treatment. He and another juvenile were walking in the area of Reese and Holmes avenues when two unknown suspects began shooting at them, ultimately striking the one juvenile in the leg. They continued to run through yards until reaching the apartments and asking one of the residents to call 911.

Evidence was located and collected in the area of the original shots fired call, just off of the 1100 block of Hughes Avenue.

The juvenile, whose name was not released, was in stable condition Wednesday night. The incident is still under investigation.

Police are asking if anyone who has information about the incident to contact Det. Steve Stechschulte at the Lima Police Department at 419-221-5181 or Crime Stoppers at 419-229-STOP (7867).
