Driver flees on foot following accident near Columbus Grove

COUMBUS GROVE — An Ottawa driver fled on food after allegedly causing an accident near Columbus Grove on Wednesday afternoon.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 4:39 p.m. Wednesday in reference to a two- vehicle injury accident on state Route 65 near Road 7-D. According to the report, a vehicle driven by Diego S. Perez, Ottawa, drove left of center and struck a vehicle operated by Lauren Massey, of Ottawa. Massey suffered minor injuries and was transported to St. Rita’s Ambulatory Care Center by the Putnam County EMS.

Perez reportedly fled the scene on foot and was later apprehended near a residence at 8643 Road 7-D. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle without a license, failure to maintain reasonable control of a vehicle and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash, according to authorities. The Ottawa Fire Department, Ottawa Police Department and Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted at the scene.
