American Heart Association, Lima Memorial hold CPR training

LIMA — Lima Memorial Health System is supporting the American Heart Association in its initiative to train community members in hands-only CPR.

People learning bystander CPR may be the answer to reducing deaths from the more than 350,000 cardiac arrests that occur outside of a hospital each year, according to the AHA. The AHA stated most of those victims die, often because bystanders don’t know how to start CPR or are afraid they’ll do something wrong. The AHA stated it believes training more people in hands-only CPR is the answer to saving more lives.

Since 2012, the AHA has been working in Allen County to provide education, awareness and prevention resources to companies and community members, culminating in the annual HeartChase event every September. This year’s HeartChase is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Sept. 16 in downtown Lima.
