Lima man charged with reckless homicide in teen’s death

LIMA — The teen sought as a “person of interest” in the shooting death of a 16-year-old Lima boy this week turned himself in to the Lima Police Department on Thursday afternoon.

Daquan Burse, 18, was accompanied by several family members as he surrendered to police. He expressed his intent to fully cooperate with the investigation, according to Lima Police Det. Steve Stechschulte.

The shooting victim was identified as Dasmine D. Omosikeji. He was found collapsed on the ground after officers were called to the intersection of Collett and North streets on Tuesday night. Officers discovered the shooting took place in an apartment in the 900 block of West Wayne Street, approximately a block away from where he was found.

According to Stechschulte, Omosikeji was trying to walk to St. Rita’s Medical Center when he collapsed. He died shortly after arrival at St. Rita’s.

Burse will be held at the Allen County Jail, charged with reckless homicide, a third-degree felony. The shooting remains under investigation.

In January, Burse had pleaded no contest in Lima Municipal Court to prohibitions and obstructing official business and had received two suspended 30-day jail sentences and two $150 fines, according to court records.
