LIMA — With playground equipment in city parks showing signs of aging and deterioration, Lima City Council will consider legislation to enter into contract with two companies to install playground equipment at three city parks during its 7 p.m. meeting Monday at the Lima Municipal Building.
If approved, the city would enter into a contract with Gametime, a PlayCore company, and Kompan Inc. to install equipment this year at Robb, Faurot and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Center parks.
According to a letter to the council from Public Works Director Howard Elstro, Finance Director Steve Cleaves and Parks and Recreation Director Ric Stolly, the contracts come as the result of a comprehensive assessment of playground sites at city parks.
“Our assessment thus far has found many playgrounds have non-compliant, worn out equipment,” the letter reads. “Please note that the equipment that had become hazardous has been removed.”
The contracts would provide $85,000 in equipment for Robb Park, $65,000 at the west end of Faurot Park at Shelter 2, $20,000 in modifications at Faurot Cemetery Park and $45,000 in equipment at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Center Park, for a total investment of $215,000 this year. Kompan would receive the Faurot Park Shelter 2 contract, with Gametime named in the other three.
The letter also said that this work would be part of a four year plan that would address other city parks, with planning and funding sources yet to be determined.

•2020 projects (estimated cost): Skate Park expansion ($65,000), Kibby Corners Main Street Park ($35,000)
