PANDORA — Two men from southern Ohio allegedly caught breaking into a home were captured after a resident caught them in the act and then chased them as they tried to make a getaway.

The citizen chased the two men in a vehicle until they crashed and rolled the vehicle onto its side. The men got out and ran, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Within hours, with the help of police dogs, the sheriff’s office and officers from multiple agencies were able to capture the men, the sheriff’s office reported.

Raymond C. Rainer, 33, and Derek L. Leach, 29, both of Wellston, were arrested following the burglary just after 9 p.m. Thursday near Pandora, the sheriff’s office reported.

The unidentified resident caught the two men stealing tools from an outbuilding, the sheriff’s office reported.

Before their capture, the sheriff’s office reported the men were to be considered possibly armed and dangerous after locating ammunition in their vehicle.
