LIMA — A 21-year-old man charged with killing a Wapakoneta man last year waived his right to a preliminary hearing Thursday, allowing a magistrate to send the case to the grand jury for consideration.
Rione Gray appeared briefly Thursday at a hearing in Lima Municipal Court. He told Magistrate Richard Warren he would waive the hearing.
Gray is charged with murder with a gun in the Nov. 21 shooting death of 35-year-old Ryan VanBuskirk, of Wapakoneta. The slaying happened in the 700 block of Catalpa Avenue.
Chaz Jackson, 21, also is charged with murder in the slaying and is wanted.
Warren continued Gray’s bond at $1 million.
Gray recently was captured in St. Louis, Missouri, after police came across him. Lima Police detectives drove to St. Louis last week to retrieve him.
Gray was one of three men wanted for murder who were captured out of state in the past few weeks. Police out of state came across the men by chance, such as a traffic stop or similar law enforcement encounter.
Cory L. Jackson, and Terry C. Williams both were captured in Detroit, separate from each other. Jackson, 20, is charged with murder in the shooting death of 20-year-old Amari Gooding, who was shot dead outside the Main Street Pub at 318 N. Main St. on Oct. 8.
Williams, 27, is charged with murder in the Aug. 18 shooting death of 29-year-old Edward Henry at the Lima Estates Apartments at 760 E. Fourth St. Another man, Devonte Malik Andrews, 20, also is charged with murder and wanted in connection with Henry’s death.
