LIMA — An inmate was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive at the Allen County Justice Center on Monday.
In a statement issued Monday, Chief Deputy Brian Winegardner of the Allen County Sheriff’s Office said corrections officers found the inmate unresponsive at about 5:15 p.m. The officers performed CPR and used a defibrillator in an effort to revive the inmate while waiting for EMS to respond. The inmate was taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima where he was pronounced dead at 5:44 p.m.
The inmate’s name was being withheld until relatives could be notified. An investigation into the death was being conducted by Sheriff’s Office detectives.
