Youth Profile: Teen excels at academics, athletics

LIMA — Whether it is academically or athletically, Shannon Daley has managed to make herself stand out at Lima Central Catholic High School.

Carrying a 4.38 GPA, she has been awarded three academic letters and two varsity volleyball letters. She was a team captain for the volleyball team this past season.

“I owe a lot to the LCC community,” said Shannon, a senior. “They have always supported me in everything I have faced. I now have the confidence and courage to do anything I want to do.”

Specifically, Shannon has set her sights on medical school concerning what she wants to do. She plans to attend Notre Dame University to become a pediatrician.

Shannon was named as the winner in the Ohio State Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Scholarship Essay contest. Shannon and her parents, Douglas and Kathleen Daley, attended the DAR Conference Youth Luncheon where Shannon received her award. Her essay is now at national judging.

She is the president of Mu Alpha Theta and the International Club. Shannon is an officer of the National Honor Society and a two-year member of student senate. She volunteers at St. Rita’s Medical Center and Safety City, and participated in the Allen Lima Leadership youth program last year. Shannon has been involved in three fall play productions at LCC and has been a dancer for 13 years with Lynn’s Academy of Dance.

In her free time, Shannon enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing the ukulele and the piano, and singing. She has three brothers, Matt, Scott, and Sean.
