SIDNEY — John Koewler, 45, of Maplewood, died Sunday after his pickup struck a large tree in the 18000 block of Herring Road in Shelby County.
Officers were called at approximately 10:13 p.m. Sunday to a one-vehicle accident. The investigation revealed that Koewler was westbound in a full-sized pickup truck when his vehicle drifted off the left side of the roadway while attempting to negotiate a right curve. The vehicle traveled in a ditch and struck a large tree. Koweler was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
Assisting at the scene were personnel from the Perry Port Salem Rescue, Port Jefferson Fire Department and deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
