YOUTH PROFILE: Elida 8th-grader balances busy schedule

ELIDA — Although only 14, dance has became a way of life for Elida eighth-grader Tod Fish.

Tod first started dancing seven years ago and now practices two nights a week in 4.5-hour sessions at A Step Above Dance Studio in Bellefontaine.

“I have a pretty broad range,” Tod said of his dancing. “I like Latin, jazz and lyrical.”

Tod now also has a partner, 12-year-old Lily Webb, of Bath, and the dance pair is undefeated in five regional dance competitions.

Tod’s abilities are being noticed. He received a call back audition at NY-LA-Nash Talent Agency for a television pilot. Tod said they have received very little information about the pilot so far, other than it will be shot in Nashville this summer.

Despite the demanding schedule, Tod also finds time to act as vice-president of Fight Like a Redhead Inc. Tod’s mother, Nichole, is battling both cancer and rheumatoid arthritis.

“When Mom was diagnosed, Dad saw a lot of people,” Tod said. “Some were receiving good news, some not so good. We wanted to do something to help.”

Though it was a long fight, Tod’s mother is now in remission. Knowing what it was like to battle cancer, the family started the organization to help others.

“It is pretty hard trying to keep my commitments and make sure I have time to be with her,” Tod said. “But we have a great support staff and a great group of people to help.”

The group has held several benefits to fund its project, including a 5K run and a New Year’s Eve black tie event.

Tod also maintains a 3.6 GPA at Elida and is a member of choir and band as a saxophone player. He said he hopes to work in the entertainment business when he graduates.

Tod is the son of Matt and Nichole Fish.
