Fire at Continental home results in total loss

CONTINENTAL — A home in Continental is considered a total loss after a fire erupted overnight.

At 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, Putnam County 911 received a call from a resident at 310 W. Rice St. regarding a fire inside a wall of the residence. The caller and all occupants were able to exit the residence safely, and no one was injured.

Continental Fire Chief Steve Elkins stated the structure is considered “a total loss,” though the cause of the fire is still undetermined. The building is valued at $47,630, according to the Putnam County Auditor’s website. The residence is owned by Seth Weller.

Continental firefighters were the first on scene, and they received mutual aid from Oakwood Fire Department and Kalida Fire Department. Also on scene were Continental EMS, Putnam County EMS, the American Red Cross and Ohio Power.
