FBI probe against Crish continues

LIMA — The FBI investigation into Allen County Sheriff Sam Crish remains ongoing, an agent said Wednesday.

FBI Special Agent Vicki Anderson said there is no timetable for the investigation to be complete. She declined to discuss further details due to the pending investigation.

Crish has been the subject of an FBI investigation since September after agents raided his office. The FBI would not say what the investigation focuses on.

After the raid, Crish checked himself into an inpatient program for a gambling addiction he has.

Crish was reelected sheriff in November for a third term after running unopposed.

Crish also has financial problems he is fighting. Former Lima City Councilman Ray Magnus filed a lawsuit against Crish seeking $102,000 he said he let Crish borrow. A drug dealer serving a 25-year prison sentence said Crish set him up to get out of paying a $20,000 debt. Demond Liles said he was friends with Crish and let him borrow $20,000. Liles also is appealing his conviction partially based on the allegation he made against Crish.
