Fire destroys vacant Lima home early Monday

LIMA — A fire Monday morning destroyed a vacant house on East Third Street.

Firefighters were called to 406 E. Third St. at 6:55 a.m. Monday for a house fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found fire on the first floor that also damaged the second floor of the home, said Lima Fire Battalion Chief Greg Kirkendall.

No one was inside and no one lives there, Kirkendall said.

The fire caused an estimated $18,500 in damage and the house likely is a total loss, he said.

The home is owned by John Manley, of Lima, and is valued at $23,900, according to the Allen County Auditor’s Office records.

The cause appears to be accidental but it remained under investigation Monday, Kirkendall said.
