Lima Police, Fire departments engage in blood battle

LIMA — The Lima Police Department and Lima Fire Department will participate in the annual Battle of the Badges in Lima on Tuesday and Wednesday at the American Red Cross.

The Battle of the Badges is a friendly competition between firefighters and police officers to see who can bring in the most blood donations. The event is held each year to help the Red Cross maintain the blood supply during the challenging summer months. Donors who join in the battle can vote for their favorite department. Last year the police won the battle with 64 donations, and the firefighters received 61 donations. These donations are used to support patients at more than 80 hospitals across Ohio and Indiana.

The event will be from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. To schedule an appointment, visit the Red Cross at http://redcrossblood.org or call 800-733-2767.
