Elida student to

attend CampMed

ELIDA — Elida eighth-grader Bailey Carder has been granted a full scholarship to attend CampMed at The University of Toledo. Thirty-nine students were selected from northwest Ohio to participate in the two-day educational program designed to encourage a career in science and medicine.

UT faculty, physicians, scientists and students present the program curriculum.

CampMed is a full scholarship program with admission based on demonstrated academic achievement, a personal essay and the recommendation of a teacher/counselor.

Immunization

for 7th, 12th graders

LIMA — The Allen County Public Health Department is reminding parents of new immunization requirements for students going into seventh and 12th grades. The new state requirement is for the meningococcal vaccine. The vaccine is now required for students entering the seventh grade with a second dose requirement before entering 12th grade. Two doses for seniors will not be required if the first dose was received after age 16 or if the child is a senior and is age 15. Students without proof of vaccination can be subject to exclusion from school.

The Health Department is hosting a clinic for students needing the vaccine from 2 to 5 p.m. on Aug. 31. The regular weekly immunization clinics are available on Wednesdays and Thursdays by appointment only. Costs for immunizations will vary depending upon eligibility requirements, and the Health Department does have the vaccine available for those children who are covered by private insurance. Call the Nursing Division at 419-228-4457 for details.
