Driver who hit, killed woman helping dog turns himself in

ANNA — A woman checking on a dog she may have struck with her car was hit and killed as she tried to help the dog late Wednesday, while the driver of the other vehicle drove off, Shelby County Sheriff John Lenhart reported Thursday.

The woman killed was identified as Katriz M. Dilworth, 38, of Maplewood. The driver of the car that hit Dilworth later turned himself in and was identified as Timothy J. Huelskamp, 51, of Wapakoneta, Lenhart reported.

The incident occurred in the 10000 block of Sidney Freyburg Road just before 11 p.m. Dilworth appeared to have struck a dog with her car, stopped and got out to try to help the dog, Lenhart reported.

As she tried to help, another vehicle struck her and drove off. Dilworth was taken to Miami Valley Hospital by medical helicopter, where she was pronounced dead, the sheriff’s office reported.

The incident remains under investigation, Lenhart reported.
