Suicidal man barricades self in Minster home for some 4 hours

MINSTER — A suicidal man barricaded himself in his home, possibly with explosives, for some four hours Tuesday before police officials were able to convince him to surrender.

The Auglaize County Sherrif’s Office received a call about a man armed with a handgun who was threatening suicide in a home just east of Minster on state Route 119 at about 12:30 p.m.

Officers were initially unable to talk the 38-year old man out of the home. A juvenile who was also in the home was able to be removed to safety.

Further information at the scene revealed the possibility of explosives in the home.

Negotiators were finally able to get the man to surrender after about four hours. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Officials were still on the scene late Tuesday clearing the house and outbuilding of possible explosives.
