Lima area to host several National Day of Prayer events Thursday

LIMA — Since 1988, the first Thursday in May has been designated the National Day of Prayer in the United States. To mark this year’s observances, several events are planned in the region:

•The Allen County community observance of the National Day of Prayer will take place at 11:45 a.m. Thursday at the UNOH Event Center, 1405 N. Cable Road. Several pastors in the county will lead those assembled in prayer, with Scriptures, songs and quotations from America’s founders mingled throughout.

•The Van Wert County Ministerial Association will hold prayers at noon Thursday in front of the courthouse. County residents, business and community leaders are invited to participate.

•First United Methodist Church in Van Wert is holding an interactive prayer station walk at 4 p.m. Thursday with 10 stations on hand. There is no cost to attend and food will be available in the church basement.

•An interfaith prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Veterans Memorial Civic Center in Lima. Representatives from the Christian, Muslim, Jewish and Hindu faith communities will participate.

•A National Day of Prayer event will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Ebenezer Mennonite Church in Bluffton. The hourlong event will feature prayers and singing.
