The Seven Dance Company at Lima City Schools
LIMA — The Seven Dance Company will perform for students in the Lima City Schools on Thursday.
The performance joins the science of stars with the art of dance. The dance company uses contemporary dance to tell the stories of stars with added narration by astrophysicist Paul Sutter.
Select students from all of the district’s buildings will attend the performance at 9:30 a.m. at Lima Senior High School. About 500 students will attend.
Crestview student featured in national magazine
CONVOY — Crestview Middle School student Samantha Klinger was featured in the Children’s Craniofacial Association’s national magazine, “CCA Wonderkids.”
Samantha is an eighth-grader at Crestview Middle School, and is diagnosed with Apert Syndrome. She has had 28 surgeries that have been necessary due to issues that have surfaced from her Apert syndrome. She always tackles life’s challenges with a smile.
One of Samantha’s favorite books is “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio because it highlights that people with disabilities and facial difference are human too.
Elida schools recognize April Students of the Month
ELIDA — The Elida school board recognized April Students of the Month at the April 19 board meeting. These students included elementary, middle school and high school students.
Elementary School students: Isabelle Gibson; Emma Groh; Kole Schiffhauffer; and Olivia Smith.
Middle School students: TiShaunna Brown; Jesse Rogers; McKenzie Savill; and Abigail White.
High School students: Emily Bowman; Erin Bowman; Austin Morrison; and Shannon Walkup.
St. Mary of the Assumption accepting registration
VAN WERT — St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic School, Van Wert, is accepting registration for students entering all grades, kindergarten through sixth grade, for the 2016-17 school year. New student registrations are accepted until classes are filled, and is on a first-come, first-served basis. For kindergarten eligibility, a child should reach age 5 by Sept. 30.
New Bremen prom king and queen
NEW BREMEN — The 2016 prom king and queen were crowned at New Bremen’s prom. Prom Queen is Makenna Brackman and Prom King is Craig Francis.
Robotics students win second, third
LIMA — The South Science and Technology Magnet School robotics Team won second- and third-place finishes at the National Robotics Challenge held in Marion in April.
South’s eighth-grade team of Xylon Payne-Greeno and Tryston Moorman won second place in the Middle School Tactile Maze competition.
The seventh-grade team of Michael Bishop, Javier Brito-Diaz, Andrew Zell, and Cody Rodenberger won third place in the Middle School Tactile Maze competition.
The team’s adviser is teacher Jessica Spencer.
Apollo students head to national competition
LIMA —Four Apollo Career Center students enrolled in Administrative and Medical Office Technology and one in Computer Information Support were high performers at the state BPA Leadership Conference. Students scoring high enough to attend the national BPA conference in Boston are: Shawna Smith in Intermediate Word Processing, Kayla Arnett and Kaylee Williams will compete with the best of the best in Fundamental Word Processing and Demetrius Brown will be competing in Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications. These students will be traveling with adviser Diana Malone, Administrative and Medical Office Technology instructor this month.
Wapakoneta students receive recognition at board meeting
WAPAKONETA — Wapakoneta Middle School students were honored at the April 26 board meeting. These students were nominated by their teachers to gain this recognition:
Fifth grade: Melissa George; Hannah Prine; and Brady King.
Sixth grade: Allison Wilson; Alex Burklo; and Angeline Murray.
Seventh grade: Blaze Lones; Taylor West; and Madison Snider.
Bowman wins third place in congressional art competition
LIMA — Temple Christian School freshman Brody Bowman won third place in the 4th District Congressional Art Competition with his work, “Uncle Amos.”
U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan attended a reception honoring the winners of the competition. The reception was held at Temple Christian School.
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, more than 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.
AAUW hosts scholarship dessert
LIMA — The AAUW organization hosted a scholarship dessert for area high school students.
Area students with winning essays and scholarship awards included: Haley Adams, Bath High School; Emily Clements, Lima Central Catholic High School; Alexandra Hays and Lanna Klausing, Delphos St. John’s; Katelyn Richardson, Allen East High School; Emily Bowman, Elida High School; Kaylee Davis, Spencerville HIgh School; Sari Jones, Lima Senior High School; Elizabeth Nisley, Bluffton High School; and Paige Swinehart, Allen East High School.
Lima Senior High School students awarded
LIMA — Lima Senior High School students were awarded for excelling in the classroom and impressing their teachers.
The Honors banquet was held April 27 and included in the academic honors were students selected by each department as the best in each grade. Teachers in each department decided on the award winners, which consist of freshmen through seniors.
