Students invited to perform at VMCC

LIMA — Broadway in Lima is looking to connect local students with the artists of “Close To You: The Music of the Carpenters.”

The performance, which begins at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center, offers students a “unique on-stage experience performing alongside national-caliber talent,” a news release reported. Students from Wapakoneta High School and Lima Central Catholic are invited to attend.

ONU to host pharmacy leadership summit

ADA — The Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy will host a hospital pharmacy leadership summit at The Inn at ONU at 11 a.m. Feb. 11.

This summit will allow for discussion of current hospital pharmacy topics. Each topic will be led by a leader in the field and presented to the attendees of the summit.

Elida grad recognized by Marine Corps.

ELIDA — A 2014 Elida High School graduate was named “Warrior of the Week” and received the “Heavy Hitter” award for his development and knowledge of the Weapons Platoon in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Pfc. Blake Kleman demonstrated ability that made him “stand out against his peers,” according to a news release. During weapons training, Battalion Commander Justin Ansel indicated he “has never seen 60 mm mortar men so proficient with their weapons.”

Kleman joined the Marines in December 2014 and is deployed in Sigonella, Italy, where he is a company clerk and “Mortar Man.”

UNOH to host Internship Fair

LIMA — The University of Northwestern Ohio is hosting an Internship Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the UNOH Student Commons Building Lobby located at 1739 Hartzler Road.

The annual event is designed for students looking to find an internship to fulfill the academic requirements of their major of study. Organizations from the Lima area will be in attendance, offering internships in marketing, sports marketing and management, business administration, health information technology and healthcare administration.

Students attending will have the opportunity to submit their resumes and meet face to face with company representatives. Following the event, students may be contacted for additional interviews or be offered an internship in their field of interest.

Any junior- or senior-level student in marketing, sports marketing and management, business administration, health information technology or health care administration is invited to attend.

Painter’s work on display at OSU-Lima

LIMA — “Recent Works” by New York-based painter and critic Mario Naves is on display in the Farmer Family Gallery in Reed Hall at Ohio State-Lima.

Recent Works includes 16 paintings created between 2014 and 2015. Naves teaches at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn College and Hofstra University. He has been the recipient of awards and grants from The National Endowment for the Arts, The E.D. Foundation, The Sugarman Foundation, The Pollock-Krasner Foundation, The City University of New York and The National Academy.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m weekdays through Feb. 19. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Meijer offering scholarship

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Fred & Lena Meijer Scholarship is increasing its scholarship awards from $2,500 to $3,000 this year, giving Meijer team members and their children an opportunity to put even more money toward their college education.

Applications are being accepted through April 1 for the competitive scholarship, which is held at and administered by the Grand Rapids Community Foundation.

To qualify for the scholarships, Meijer team members must have one year of continuous service by the April 1 application deadline, and may be full- or part-time students. Dependents of Meijer team members must be full-time students with a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Study abroad students to present at Bluffton

BLUFFTON — Bluffton University students will report on their fall 2015 semester experiences studying in Guatemala, Washington, D.C., England, and Ireland. Two different sessions will take place on Tuesday.

The first is at 11 a.m. in Founders Hall. This presentation will focus on students who traveled to Guatemala. The second presentation will be held at 7 p.m. in Yoder Recital Hall. Students from Washington, D.C., England, and Ireland will share their experiences during this time.

These events are free and open to the public.
