Officials look for information in hit-and-run near Van Wert

VAN WERT COUNTY — No one was seriously injured late Thursday after a hit-and-run accident on U.S. 127.

Karen S. Clark, 69, of Van Wert, was traveling south on U.S. 127 near Elm Sugar Road, when a 1998 Nissan Maxima traveling west failed to yield. Clark’s 2004 Ford Mustang came to a stop in a field southwest of the intersection. The Nissan Maxima stopped in the intersection of U.S. 127 and Elm Sugar Road.

Witnesses reported to the Van Wert post of the Ohio State Patrol that the driver and three passengers in the Nissan Maxima took off on foot into a nearby corn field. Clark was trapped inside the Ford Mustang and removed by Scott Fire and EMS.

Clark was transported to Van Wert County Hospital, where she was treated and released with minor injuries.

Troopers were assisted with the search for the passengers in the Nissan Maxima by the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, Van Wert Fire Department and Ohio State Highway Patrol’s aviation section. Several local residents volunteered to help law enforcement search for the four subjects.

The individuals that fled were not located after several hours of searching the surrounding area.
