Spilled cargo shuts down Lima’s Metcalf Street bridge

LIMA — The Metcalf Street bridge was shut down early Thursday morning, as crews tried to clean cargo off the bridge.

A semitrailer had overturned, spilling its cargo on the road, according to the Lima Police Department.

The department shut down the bridge and was on scene investigating the incident as of 11 a.m. Thursday.

When contacted at about 8 p.m. Thursday, Lima Police was unable to give any updated information about the bridge problem. The department did not know if the debris — which appeared to be scrap wood with nails sticking out of it, perhaps from a torn-down structure — had been cleaned up and traffic restored.

Officer Josh Snyder said the report was not available, and he could not check reports he was not assigned to. Another officer on duty with Snyder also was unaware of any updates. Snyder said to check with the morning shift today for more information.
