Rhodes sworn in as county engineer

LIMA — He may be a familiar face to many in Allen County’s engineering circles, but Brion Rhodes officially became county engineer after being officially sworn into office Friday at the Allen County Engineer’s Office.

Rhodes was selected by the Allen County Republican Party to finish the unexpired term of retired county engineer Tim Piper. Rhodes, who has been with the Allen County Engineer’s Office since 1999, had previously served as the bridge engineer and the chief deputy engineer before assuming his new post.

“Allen County has a history of great county engineers,” he said, “and I’ve had the privilege of working under three of them.”

Allen County Republican Party Chairman Keith Cheney expressed confidence in Rhodes’ ability during the ceremony Friday, maintaining that he will do an excellent job maintaining the county’s infrastructure.

“Four words come to mind, and I think they speak volumes about the person who will lead this office into the future,” he said. “Those words are methodical, diligent, trustworthy and caring.”

Rhodes is taking on this position in a time where engineers across the state face lower revenues, higher costs for materials and increased demand for road and bridge maintenance.

“Between those crosshairs, we have a lot of challenges to meet as far as budget is concerned,” he said. “Once I get acclimated, I plan on picking up the torch where my predecessor left off and continuing to maintain the roads in Allen County as best as I can.”

Rhodes will run as a candidate in the November 2016 election.
