Local graduates awarded scholarships

LIMA — Two local high school graduates were awarded scholarships to help pay for college Tuesday.

Gracey Smith of Bath High School plans to major in chemical engineering at the University of Southern California while Jacob Lehman plans to major in mechanical engineering at Ohio Northern University.

Both were awarded $500 a semester scholarships from the Crafts Education Fund Scholarship that was established by Earl and Worthy Crafts in 1971 through their estate. Recipients can reapply each year.

Those applying must have had a 3.5 grade point average in high school and attended a high school in Allen County. They must maintain a 3.0 grade point average in college.

A committee reviews all applicants and makes a recommendation to Allen County commissioners. Commissioners finalized the two recipients this year by voting on the scholarship awards at a meeting Tuesday.
