Roses and Thorns

They’re all coming up roses this week.

Rose: To Sondra Dreitzler, of Cridersville, whose idea is in the nationally syndicated Pluggers cartoon on Oct. 5. In it, a female finds two flavors of ice cream in the freezer, with the caption, “It doesn’t take much to make a plugger happy.”

Rose: To Kesha Drake, the director of the Bradfield Community Center over the past seven years. She announced her resignation in the past week. The center has truly thrived under her leadership, and she’ll be missed.

Rose: To Lima natives Kevin Hawley, Charles Johns and Clint Roberts, who recently reached the summit of Granite Peak in Montana.

Rose: To Robert Kohli, the new police chief in Shawnee Township. He’s been with the department since 2002 and was promoted to sergeant in 2012. He replaces former Chief Michael Keith, who retired after 44 years in law enforcement.
