Cleveland Orchestra to require vaccines starting Jan. 3

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Due to the ongoing surge of coronavirus cases in Northeast Ohio, the Cleveland Orchestra has updated its COVID-19 vaccination policy to include a booster shot.

Starting on Jan. 3, guests must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test to get into the venue. Specifically, when it comes to the term “full vaccination,” that includes a booster shot, according to the Cleveland Orchestra’s website. The website also specifies that vaccines must be approved by the World Health Organization or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Guests must also present photo ID with their proof of vaccine.

If guests can’t provide proof of vaccine with a booster, they must show a negative COVID-19 test with a photo ID — but not all tests will suffice. The organization will accept results from a lab-certified antigen test completed within 24 hours of the event, or a result from a PCR test within 72 hours of the event.

In addition to the policies around vaccines and negative tests, guests must also wear appropriate face coverings while inside the venue at all times. Bandanas and neck gaiters will not be permitted, the Cleveland Orchestra stated on its website. Disposable masks will be provided if needed.

The policy builds on the orchestra’s existing rules around vaccination or negative tests that were in place for the fall 2021 season, now updated to include a booster.

The update follows record-breaking COVID-19 case rates in Cuyahoga County and the state of Ohio. It also follows two recent concert cancelations due to positive cases popping up in the orchestra (one in December, and one in November).

The first concert slated for Severance in 2022 is “Levit Plays Brahms,” set for Jan. 6-8. Tickets are still available for the weekend performances.

If COVID-19 concerns prohibit ticket holders from attending a concert, they should contact the Ticket Office for exchange options. Find more information about the updated policy at clevelandorchestra.com/healthinfo.
